Adobe Firefly A.I. Art Experimentation

For the first assignment of FMX-210, I was required to experiment with Adobe Firefly, Adobe's A.I. art generating program for three pieces that will be showcased below.

I think it is important to understand that I am in the belief that A.I. art does have a purpose and a use, however I also believe that many major companies and independent parties have exploited these resources for the incorrect use. Using A.I. art as inspiration for an idea, layout, or specific visual details is great and can help artists create better artwork in the long term to preserve their work and value at major studios and companies. However, most uses of this technology has replaced the need for artistic integrity and craftmanship that only humans can provide. This is evident in projects like the Corridor Crew's A.I. anime, which is one of the best example of this type of misuse.

Regardless, I feel it is important to experiment and use this technology to better understand how it works and how it can be used in the ever-changing artistic landscape. So, here are the three works I have created using Adobe Firefly's A.I. generation.

The first piece I started my experimentation with was using the prompt "An explorer in his mid-sixties discovers a jungle temple deep in the Amazon rainforest in a cave with a ray of light shining from the cave roof" and I used the Digital Art filter. While this piece misses the first part of the prompt, the rest is fairly remarkable for an A.I. engine. The generator followed roughly about what I had in mind when writing the prompt, and I must give credit where it is due. For a first prompt on the site, this is very impressive.

This second piece utilizes the prompt "A man looks over a hotel balcony late at night into the New York City skyline" while using the same digital art style as the first. This piece specifically reminds me of early 70's - early 90's anime such as the critically acclaimed Lupin the Third with its sweeping and vast backgrounds filled with vibrant lighting. This is most likely my favorite of the images I have generated for this assignment.

This final images is using the Synthwave style and Golden Hour lighting with the prompt "A red eastern dragon resting on the top of a Japanese pagoda at sunset." This piece has an ominous aura to it that I want to recreate in my own personal work outside of A.I. engines. Also, this dragon design is flawed, but pretty incredible nonetheless.

Overall, this was an interesting experiment to say the least, having to put my biases of A.I. art generators to the side for a moment to truly experiment with the potential of the software. With specific limitations and guardrails, I think A.I. software can be a great tool for artists in the coming years. However, artistic integrity and originality can only be made with the human mind and the human body, so I advise those who do use this software to not make it your only resource.
